Crimson Sky

Performace Type: Mainstage

Plumbing the depths of introspection and scaling the heights of the wild and dramatic, Toward The Crimson Sky features koto virtuoso Satsuki Odamura and a wide range of taiko and percussion instruments, electronica, vocals and bamboo flutes. Ian Cleworth’s thrillingly dramatic, moodily evocative 55-minute score is based upon Miura Yuzura's haunting haiku and was especially composed to showcase Satsuki's 17-string bass koto. This unique instrument gives extra depth to the sonic texture, while Taikoz's taiko is at once intricate and riotously explosive.

Featuring: Satsuki Odamaura (bass koto)

“…(Toward The Crimson Sky) make(s) for an engaging spectacle… that earns respect for its sense of ritual and a genuine belief in, and commitment to, its artistic, even spiritual, value.” – David Vance, Sydney Morning Herald

I loved the astonishing beauty and physicality of the playing, the beautiful contrast between power and delicacy, the fantastic compositions, the energy and enthusiasm of all members.” – Audience feedback from Crimson Sky
